![]() The rifle will work with unmodified mags, but misfeeds from time to time with them, as the rounds will nosedive and then turn up sharply, binding in the barrel extension. The only other modification has been to shorten the mag followers and install a feed ramp block at the front of the Pmags. Also have to remove the bottom lug from the barrel extension. The bolt is a standard 5.56 bolt, which I opened up to accept 10mm rims, and slightly beveled & polished the lower inside edge to aid feeding. Fortunately, the 10 mag has a long, strong case head, so even with no support ~.2" in at the bottom of the chamber, the cases don't bulge. The chamber mouth has a very interesting shape, had to throat it quite a bit at the bottom to get feeding reliable. So I considered my options for a day, and then decided to just ream it for 10mm mag, which also makes use of standard AR mags possible due to the OAL of 10mm mag. I had originally chambered the barrel (which I turned from a Green Mountain blank) for 10mm auto, but there just wasn't enough gas volume for it to lock on empty with the pistol gas system. I have also crewed for an XRRA team (back when XRRA was still around), and had a hand in many builds. I have a 1983 Ramcharger on 4" with 35s, a 1966 M35A2, and I take a Beta Zero trials bike where those can't go. Of course, I'm also an off road enthusiast, though certainly not to the degree of many here. To preface, some of you may already know me on other gun boards, or on my YouTube channel (ECCO Machine) which is focused on home building quality firearms. I know this is an OLD thread, but I figured the fact that I did successfully build a 10mm magnum AR might be of interest to some Hey guys, new member here, just happened upon this post searching for 10mm mag load data. Then piss around getting a magazine together that'll feed correctly. Start small, and make it bigger if needed? Pistol, carbine, or full length gas sytem? Was thinking carbine might be about right. Seems like there should be different barrel extensions for the different cases, but I don't see a variety for sale. The barrel extension is where I get confused. Looking through AR bolts and rim/body diameters. Trying to figure out what it would involve.Ĥ0 cal barrel (Pac-Nor perhaps, maybe Lothar Walther)īolt and Barrel Extension. I would think that'd work nicely for pigs and also deer (as that seems to be the popular thing to do these days). The max listed OAL for 10mm magnum is 1.555" With longer 200 gr bullets, I should be able to seat them out longer than that and just have the chamber throated appropriately. Thing was, I was trying to get the OAL up long enough to be able to use AR15 mags without a spacer block inside. 16" barrel, should be able to get a 200 gr bullet moving along nicely. Or form brass from 6.I was thinking a 10mm Magnum AR might be fun. Starline does a 10 mm mag run every once and a while. you can find alreaqdy formed brass on gun broker or just around teh net. I have an email into BWE firearms to see what they have in stock as far as the items listed above.ĭies can be gotten from CH tool and die, or the Hornady custom shop. If they could get them out faster i think would sell a lotThat was my question.can I get the barrel, dies, and brass to put it all together? I couldn't come up with anyone in my searches that sells the. but getting a barrel or upper is hard to get. What I did was cut/form/ream 6.8 brass and use it until the 10 mm mag brass came in then tweaked the loads.Īgreed. The 10 mm magnum brass is not hard to find when it is available, you just need to buy in bulk when it is and it is relatively cheap. less case capacity, but isn't that what buying wildcats is all about? Less case capacity is hardly an issue when running sub-sonic loads and the thicker 6.8 brass last forever, not that I have ever worn out any 10 mm magnum brass yet either. Sure, using 6.8 brass requires a bit of work and ends up with about 1 gr. Seems to be you can find 6.8 brass just about anywhere these days. 338 Spectre brass hard to find? News to me.
